Former UFC light-heavyweight title contender Anthony Smith, 38, was arrested in Nebraska and booked into Sarpy County Jail on Monday evening shortly before 9 p.m. on three felony charges.
Smith faces charges of attempted first degree domestic violence, terroristic threats, and first degree false imprisonment, according to John W. Reisz, Chief Deputy Sarpy County Attorney.
The attempted first degree domestic violence charge carries a potential sentence of 1 to 50 years in prison. The terroristic threats charge is punishable by 0 to 3 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and 9 to 18 months of post-release supervision. The first degree false imprisonment charge also carries significant penalties.
A bond hearing was scheduled for 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Sarpy County Correctional Center. Smith is in custody and will be called in front of a judge no later than Friday, according to authorities.
Smith, an American fighter, was a title contender in the UFC's light-heavyweight division. He lost to Jon Jones for the UFC light-heavyweight title in 2019. Smith made his UFC debut in 2016 and competed 24 times for the promotion, compiling an overall mixed martial arts record of 39 wins and 22 defeats.
