New Jersey Transit is planning to charge more than $100 for return rail tickets from New York's Pennsylvania Station to MetLife Stadium during the FIFA World Cup this summer, according to people familiar with the plans who requested anonymity to protect business relationships.

The 18-mile journey, which includes a stop at Secaucus station, ordinarily costs $12.90 for a return ticket. The same pricing applied during the FIFA Club World Cup final last summer. Under the new special event pricing model for the World Cup, however, the fare is currently set to exceed $100—representing a more than sevenfold increase from standard rates.

NJ Transit typically offers concessionary pricing for seniors, children, and disabled passengers. Under the World Cup pricing structure, however, a single blanket price will apply across all passenger categories, eliminating discounted fares for these groups.

A final decision on the pricing is expected to be made before the tournament begins. The World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States this summer, with MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, serving as one of the host venues.
