Serena Williams and Venus Williams have been granted a wildcard entry to compete in the women's doubles at Wimbledon, the All England Club announced Tuesday. The tournament begins June 29.
Serena, 44, and Venus, 45, will reunite on the grass courts for the first time in a decade as a doubles pairing. The sisters have won six Wimbledon doubles titles together, with their first coming in 2000 and their most recent in 2016. Between them, they have claimed 12 singles titles at Wimbledon — Serena seven and Venus five.
The wildcard invitation marks a significant moment in Serena's comeback. She returned to competitive tennis last week at Queen's Club, where she won her opening doubles match alongside Victoria Mboko. The pair advanced to the second round before withdrawing after Mboko suffered a knee injury. Serena was also scheduled to play doubles with Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open on Tuesday.
Serena's last professional match before her recent return came at the 2022 U.S. Open, nearly four years ago. The sisters last played doubles together at that same tournament in 2022, losing their opening match. That pairing marked their first doubles appearance together in four and a half years.
Neither sister received a wildcard for the singles draw. One women's singles wildcard spot remains unassigned. Serena has not requested a singles wildcard and has remained noncommittal about whether she plans to return to singles competition at Wimbledon.
Venus has continued to compete sporadically on the professional tour this season, though she has lost all seven of her singles matches. She turns 46 on Wednesday.
The Williams sisters have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together across all tournaments. Their Wimbledon doubles success includes victories in 2000, 2002, 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2016. On two of those occasions — 2000 and 2002 — Serena was seeded while Venus received a wildcard to complete the pairing.
