Two renowned Nepali mountaineers broke their own records on Mount Everest on Sunday, with one climber achieving his 32nd summit and the other her 11th.

Kami Rita Sherpa, 56, known as the "Everest Man," reached the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) summit at approximately 10:12 a.m. (0427 GMT) as part of an international expedition team led by Seven Summit Treks, according to Mingma Sherpa, chairman of the expedition operator. The ascent marks his 32nd successful climb of the world's highest mountain, surpassing his previous record set last year.

Lhakpa Sherpa, 52, nicknamed the "Mountain Queen," summited at 9:30 a.m. as part of an expedition organized by the Seven Summit Club agency. Her ascent represents her 11th successful climb of Everest, breaking her own previous women's record. Lhakpa Sherpa became the first Nepali woman to successfully summit and descend the mountain in 2000.

Himal Gautam, spokesperson for Nepal's Tourism Department, said on Sunday that the dual achievement represents "another milestone in Nepal's mountaineering history," according to the AFP news agency.

Mount Everest remains one of the world's most challenging mountaineering objectives, drawing climbers from around the globe each climbing season.
