Carlo Conti will step down as host of the Sanremo Music Festival after this year's edition, marking the end of his two-year contract with RAI. The broadcaster had hoped until the last moment that Conti might reconsider, but he remains firm in his decision to depart.
With Conti's exit confirmed, attention has turned to identifying his successor for the 2027 festival. According to reports, RAI's administrative director Giampaolo Rossi has settled on Stefano De Martino as the preferred candidate to take over hosting duties at the Teatro Ariston.
De Martino, who rose to prominence as a dancer before achieving significant success hosting the game show Affari Tuoi, is described as ready for the role. His selection would represent a generational shift in the festival's leadership, introducing a younger face to the position.
Other names have circulated in connection with the 2027 edition. Conti himself reportedly considered Nicola Savino as his natural successor, following the model used for Tali e Quali Show. Record labels have been pushing for a return of Amadeus, who previously hosted the festival and substantially reshaped its format by attracting major artists to compete. Some within RAI have advocated for Antonella Clerici to take the helm.
The announcement of the 2027 host is expected to come at the conclusion of the current Sanremo festival, following tradition. The timing allows the closing ceremony to serve as the moment when the new conductor is revealed to the public, transforming the end of one edition into the beginning of planning for the next.
