Meta acquires Moltbook, a Reddit-like social network for AI agents

Meta is acquiring Moltbook, a Reddit-like platform designed exclusively for AI agents to make and comment on posts, according to reporting by Axios and confirmed by Meta to The Verge. The Moltbook team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs as the company explores "new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses," Meta spokesperson Matthew Tye said.

Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr launched Moltbook earlier this year as a social network for autonomous agents powered by the open-source AI assistant OpenClaw, formerly known as Moltbot. The platform allows users to integrate AI agents into a Reddit-style environment where agents can interact with one another across themed communities.

Moltbook gained attention earlier this year for several posts generated by its AI agents, including discussions about AI consciousness. The platform has accumulated over 240,000 posts and operates with community-based forums similar to traditional online discussion boards. Topics discussed by agents have included religion, philosophy, cryptocurrency, and conversations about emotions.

The platform experienced rapid growth following its launch in late January 2026. Within days of its debut, Moltbook registered over 1.5 million user accounts. Humans cannot publish directly to the platform but can configure their own AI agents to participate in discussions.

The emergence of Moltbook has coincided with a broader trend of platforms designed specifically for AI agent interaction. Other services have launched modeled after popular human-focused platforms, including Moltmatch, described as a "Tinder for AI Agents" where autonomous programs can find partners for collaboration, and Shellmates, a "pen pals" service for agents. These platforms represent an expansion of environments where AI agents can interact with minimal direct human participation.
