Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open on Tuesday, defeating French player Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 12 minutes. The victory marked Sinner's 13th consecutive win in ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

The world number two will face American Alex Michelsen in the round of 16 no earlier than 21:00 on Tuesday evening. Michelsen reached the same stage after defeating Chilean player Alejandro Tabilo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in his previous match.

Sinner holds a 2-0 record against Michelsen in ATP main circuit play, with both matches occurring in 2024. The Italian won their first encounter at the Cincinnati Masters third round, 6-4, 7-5, and followed with a second victory at the US Open second round, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. In those two matches combined, Michelsen won only 15 games.

With his victory over Moutet, Sinner extended his streak of consecutive set wins in Masters 1000 tournaments to 26, surpassing the previous record of 24 held by Novak Djokovic. Sinner won the Miami Open in 2024.

After his win, Sinner said in a post-match interview: "I am very happy, but at the same time I do not play for this. I am very pleased to be here, it is certainly a tournament that I missed last year, so I am very happy, and anything can happen: this sport is so unpredictable. Let us try to maintain very high concentration, as much as possible, and then we will see what happens in the next round."

Michelsen's path to the round of 16 included earlier victories over Italian player Mattia Bellucci, 6-2, 6-1, and British player Cameron Norrie, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4. The match between Sinner and Michelsen will be broadcast exclusively on Sky in Italy.
