Elon Musk has become the largest known donor in this year's midterm elections, contributing more than $276 million since July to support Republican efforts to maintain congressional majorities, according to figures confirmed ahead of this week's federal filing deadline.
The donations were first reported by The New York Times and confirmed by Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for Musk's political committee. The contributions represent one of the largest known political donations in American history.
The bulk of Musk's spending went to the Senate Leadership Fund, the primary super PAC backing Republican Senate candidates, which received $158 million. An additional $76 million was directed to America PAC, a super PAC established by Musk that has built a voter mobilization operation similar to the one deployed during the 2024 presidential election to support Donald Trump.
Musk also provided $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, a group supporting Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton in Texas, a race that has been a major focus of Musk's efforts.
America PAC's voter turnout operation has included door-to-door canvassing efforts as part of its campaign activities. The super PAC's work mirrors the organizational structure Musk's political apparatus used during the previous presidential cycle.
