U.S. President Donald Trump demanded Tuesday that companies engaged in retail gasoline sales in the United States immediately reduce prices, warning of serious consequences if they do not comply.

"Gasoline Retailers must get their Prices down, IMMEDIATELY! They're too high considering that Oil is now at $68 a Barrel, and heading south," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president said retailers "must quickly react to this statement" and warned against price gauging, which he described as "totally illegal." "If Retailers don't do this, big problems lie ahead!" Trump stated.

The demand comes as crude oil prices have declined to $68 per barrel, according to Trump's statement.
