María Corina Machado, leader of Venezuela's opposition, confirmed she will attend the presidential inauguration of José Antonio Kast in Chile on March 11, following a special invitation from the president-elect.

Machado's office announced that the Venezuelan opposition leader will be in the country between March 11 and 12. The inauguration will take place at the National Congress, where Kast will receive the presidential sash from outgoing President Gabriel Boric.

Beyond the ceremony, Machado's visit includes participation in the launch of the Sebastián Piñera Chair at the Universidad del Desarrollo, an event to which she was invited by the family of the former Chilean president. Her office stated that additional activities during her time in Chile will be communicated through official channels at a later date.

Machado, who won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, joins other Latin American leaders attending the transition. Argentine President Javier Milei and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz are also expected to attend the ceremony.

The transfer of power between Boric and Kast has been marked by tensions. A scheduled meeting between the two leaders was abruptly suspended on Tuesday, the day before the inauguration announcement.

On Saturday, thousands of people attended a farewell public event organized for President Boric, who is spending his final weekend as head of state before handing over the presidency to Kast.
