Catherine, Princess of Wales, completed the National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend, climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours to raise awareness and funds for cancer support.
The 44-year-old royal summitted Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Mount Snowdon in Wales as part of the endurance challenge. Kensington Palace announced the completion on Sunday through social media, stating the Princess undertook the climb "as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back."
Kate was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in March 2024, two months after undergoing major abdominal surgery. She announced in early 2025 that she was in remission following chemotherapy treatment.
In a video message posted Sunday, Kate explained her motivation for the challenge. "Partly it's personal — I'm so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills," she said. "But, more importantly, it's to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country."
The challenge was undertaken to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a specialist cancer center in Chelsea, west London, where Kate received her treatment.
In a social media post, Kate reflected on the broader impact of cancer diagnosis. She noted that each year hundreds of thousands of people in the country hear words they do not want to hear, followed by physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual challenges. She emphasized that the disease affects every aspect of life for patients and their families.
Kate has previously sought to raise visibility for organizations and professionals dedicated to supporting cancer patients and their families. She has spoken on numerous occasions about her experience with the disease and its significance for herself and her family.
In her message accompanying the challenge, Kate stated that "the journey during and after treatment requires more than medication," underscoring the multifaceted nature of cancer recovery and support.
