More than 17,500 people have been evacuated to safer locations from 26 flood-affected districts across Uttar Pradesh, authorities said Friday. The state government reported no loss of life or livestock so far despite the scale of the disaster.
According to the Relief Commissioner's office, approximately 3.53 lakh people have been affected by the floods. Of those evacuated, 4,847 people are currently staying in relief shelters established across the state.
Eight rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The flooding has been attributed to rising water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna Rivers, with inundated settlements reported in areas including Prayagraj.
The state government has deployed extensive relief infrastructure in response. A total of 1,312 flood shelters have been set up, alongside 1,634 flood outposts. Rescue operations have been supported by 1,697 boats and motorboats, with 1,068 medical teams deployed in affected areas.
Relief distribution efforts have been substantial. The relief machinery has distributed 72,897 food relief packets and 3,67,551 lunch packets among affected families. Health and sanitation measures have included the distribution of more than 5.52 lakh chlorine tablets and 1.87 lakh ORS packets.
Livestock have also been impacted, with over 45,000 animals affected by the floods. However, no livestock deaths have been reported. The government has provided more than 5,000 quintals of fodder to support affected animals.
The Relief Commissioner's office attributed the absence of casualties to the active response of relief and rescue machinery in the affected areas.
