Russian forces launched more than 200 strike drones at Ukraine overnight, ending a partial ceasefire that had lasted several days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday morning.

The attack included more than 80 aerial bombs and over 30 air strikes, according to Zelenskyy's statement on Telegram. Ukrainian air defenses shot down strike drones across Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, as well as in Kyiv and surrounding areas.

The strikes damaged energy facilities, apartment buildings, and a kindergarten. A civilian locomotive on the railway was also hit. Zelenskyy reported that people were injured in the attacks and that there were fatalities, offering condolences to families of the deceased.

"Russia itself chose to end the partial silence that was maintained for several days," Zelenskyy wrote, characterizing the overnight assault as a deliberate decision by Moscow to resume large-scale operations.

On Monday, Zelenskyy had stated that fighting continued at the front and that Ukraine was preparing for new attacks. "There was no silence at the front today, there were hostilities," he said in his evening address, adding that Russia showed no intention of ending the war. "But there must be peace. This is exactly what we are working for," he said at that time.

Zelenskyy indicated that Ukraine would respond to the Russian strikes. "We said that we would act mirroring all Russian steps," he wrote on Tuesday, though he did not specify the nature or timing of any Ukrainian response.
