Ukraine fires more than 1,000 drones at Russia, including Moscow

Russian air defense forces have destroyed numerous Ukrainian drones in multiple attacks on Moscow over the past week, according to statements from Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

On October 11, air defense systems destroyed 21 drones heading toward the capital, Sobyanin said. He initially reported 10 drones destroyed, then announced 11 additional unmanned aircraft neutralized nine minutes later. Emergency services worked at sites where debris fell, though no details on casualties or damage were provided at the time. Four Moscow airports—Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—imposed flight restrictions during the attack.

Earlier that same day, two additional drones targeting Moscow were destroyed by air defense systems, Sobyanin said.

Subsequent attacks continued through October 17. On October 12, air defense forces destroyed 16 drones in one operation and 10 in another. On October 13, multiple waves of attacks saw 5, 13, 20, and 10 drones destroyed across separate incidents. On October 14, air defense systems destroyed 16, 20, 10, and 15 drones in successive operations. On October 15, 10 drones were shot down. On October 16, air defense forces destroyed 20 and 15 drones in separate engagements. On Saturday, October 17, 12 drones were destroyed, followed by 15 more later that day.

In each instance, Sobyanin reported that emergency services worked at debris impact sites. No comprehensive casualty figures or damage assessments were disclosed in the available reports.

The attacks represent sustained Ukrainian drone operations targeting the Russian capital over a week-long period, with air defense systems engaging multiple waves of unmanned aircraft on most days.
