Russian forces struck Kyiv's South Bridge for the third time in two days early Friday, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko.
The overnight attack on the bridge prompted emergency services to respond to the scene. Klitschko confirmed the strike in a statement, saying "Another hit on the South Bridge. Emergency services are heading to the location."
In the Holosiyivskiy district, debris fell on open ground. Windows were damaged at a non-residential building, and several vehicles sustained damage. Klitschko reported no casualties and no fire outbreak from the strike.
The Friday morning attack followed two prior strikes on the bridge Thursday. On October 1, two Russian unmanned aerial vehicles hit near the bridge's support structure. An initial inspection at that time found no critical damage to the structure, and ground public transport began resuming service.
However, a subsequent strike on Thursday prompted authorities to halt metro and ground public transport service across the bridge. Klitschko reported that the impact damaged the bridge support, a barrier, the roadway surface, and protective concrete shielding for the metro system. Metro specialists began de-energizing the rail line following that strike.
The South Bridge is a major transportation artery in Kyiv, carrying both metro and ground public transit across the Dnieper River. The repeated targeting of the structure has disrupted civilian movement through the capital.
