Two people were killed in a shooting at a secondary school in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, according to city officials and university leadership.
The incident occurred at a school affiliated with Ateneo de Zamboanga University. City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso told radio station DZMM that both victims were students and that one of them was the shooter. The gunman used what officials described as a "large-caliber weapon."
Ernald Andal, president of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, confirmed that no additional shooting was ongoing at the time of his statement. "So far, we confirm two deaths," Andal said. "There are no more shooters in action." He added that there were no other fatalities or reported injuries beyond the two killed.
The shooting marked the second such incident in the Philippines in nearly two months, according to authorities.
