Ukraine has officially dismissed Russian claims alleging that Ukrainian forces are preparing attacks on Russia from Latvian territory, characterizing them as part of a disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing the Baltic region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi stated on social media that there is no truth in Moscow's allegations. "There is not a grain of truth in Moscow's latest false statements accusing Ukraine of preparing attacks on Russia from Latvian territory. We officially refute them. Ukraine does not use the territory or airspace of Latvia in its operations against Russia and has no intention of doing so," Tykhyi said.
Tykhyi emphasized that Russia's statements constitute a broader propaganda effort. "Russia's lies are merely a continuation of a broader propaganda campaign aimed at destabilizing public opinion in Latvia and throughout the Baltic region," he stated, adding that Ukraine thanks Latvia for rejecting the claims.
Latvia's President Edgars Rinkēvičs previously called Russia's accusations regarding the preparation of Ukrainian drone launches from the country's territory a "lie."
Dmytro Lytvyn, Presidential Communications Advisor, characterized Russia's claims as part of a pattern of threats against NATO countries. "The Russia SVR has been under the influence of alcoholic fantasies for quite some time, so we do not advise paying attention to the content of what they state, but we do advise paying attention to the direction in which they are fantasizing—it is obvious that this is a continuation of the line of threats against NATO countries," Lytvyn said in a comment to Interfax-Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service had made the allegations regarding Latvia allegedly allowing Ukrainian operations from its territory. Both Ukrainian and Latvian officials have rejected these claims as false.
