Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that Ukraine is prepared to seek compromises with Russia on grain exports and energy, while emphasizing that both countries must demonstrate willingness to take steps toward a settlement.
Speaking to journalists, Zelensky described grain and energy as sensitive issues affecting not only Ukraine and Russia but also numerous other nations dependent on food and energy resources. "Grain and energy are sensitive issues for Ukraine and Russia. And they are sensitive issues for the entire world – for India today, as well as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Asia and many other countries. We are ready to find a compromise on these issues," he said.
Zelensky stressed, however, that compromises cannot come from Ukraine alone. He noted that Russia must also demonstrate readiness for concrete action. "It is very important that we are in a situation and position today where both Ukraine and Russia need to take certain steps. We should not expect compromises only from Ukraine. Ukraine has already made many compromises," Zelensky said.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over Ukraine's grain exports and energy infrastructure. Russian armed forces have conducted strikes against port infrastructure and maritime vessels involved in Ukrainian interests, according to officials, resulting in ships ceasing operations at Ukrainian ports. Russian forces have also been directed to prepare and conduct mass strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities.
