Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have purchased Strancally Castle, a 19th-century neogothic residence located in County Waterford in southern Ireland, according to The Irish Times.
The transaction was completed several weeks ago, according to reports. The castle and its 440-acre estate sit along the Blackwater River. While the exact purchase price remains undisclosed, the property is estimated to have sold for between €20 million and €30 million, based on the quality of the residence and its complete restoration over the previous 20 years.
The previous owners were Michael Alen-Buckley, co-founder of a private investment company, and his wife Giancarla. The transaction occurred outside the standard market, and details have not yet appeared in Ireland's Property Price Register.
Strancally Castle was built around 1830 for a Tory member of parliament. The 16,000-square-foot structure features neogothic architectural styling and sits on approximately 178 hectares of land.
"Mark and his family look forward to caring for this historic home and visiting when traveling to Ireland, where Meta maintains its international headquarters," Brian Baker, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg, said in a statement. According to The Irish Times, Zuckerberg and Chan are understood to continue residing in the United States.
Zuckerberg's real estate portfolio extends beyond Ireland. He reportedly owns more than 11 properties in Palo Alto, California.
