British singer Dua Lipa filed a lawsuit Friday against Samsung seeking $15 million in damages, alleging the electronics manufacturer used her image on television packaging without authorization or payment.

The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. According to the lawsuit, Samsung placed Lipa's photograph on cardboard packaging for television models beginning in 2024, creating the false impression that she had endorsed the products.

Lipa claims the image, taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, was used prominently in a mass-marketing campaign without her knowledge, consent, or involvement. "The face of Ms. Lipa was used prominently in a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without her consideration and over which she had no voice, control or participation," the complaint states. "Ms. Lipa did not permit and would not have permitted this use."

The singer asserts she holds the copyright to the photograph and has received no compensation for its use. The lawsuit alleges multiple violations, including copyright infringement, unauthorized use of her image, violation of the Lanham Act, and infringement of her personal trademark rights.

Lipa's legal team characterized the use as misleading to consumers, who would reasonably believe based on her prominent placement on the packaging that she had authorized or endorsed Samsung's televisions. The complaint emphasizes that no official partnership or commercial agreement existed between the artist and the company.
