Real Madrid announced Tuesday that it had submitted a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid for the federative rights of striker Julián Álvarez, which the city rival rejected the same day.
The offer came after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, recently reelected to his position, had promised during his campaign to submit what he described as the club's largest transfer offer in history. Pérez had teased the announcement on June 4 during a television interview, stating the bid would exceed €150 million.
In an official statement, Real Madrid confirmed the submission of the offer following a board meeting held Tuesday. Atlético Madrid responded by thanking Real Madrid for the proposal, made within the framework of good relations between the two clubs, but rejected it and referred instead to Álvarez's release clause, which stands at €500 million.
Álvarez, 26, joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in 2024. The Argentina international has scored 49 goals in 106 appearances for the club. His contract with Atlético runs until 2030, though he reportedly declined a contract renewal in recent days.
The striker has been linked with multiple clubs during the current transfer window, including Arsenal and Barcelona. Álvarez is set to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
