Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree Thursday announcing legislative elections scheduled for November 28 across all Palestinian territories, including the occupied West Bank, occupied East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

The announcement comes as Abbas's government faces mounting international pressure to demonstrate its legitimacy. If the vote proceeds as scheduled, it will mark the first legislative elections in two decades.

The last legislative elections in the Palestinian territories took place in early 2006. The Palestinian Legislative Council, which serves as the parliament of the Palestinian Authority, has not convened since 2007.

The presidential decree calls on the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza to participate in free and direct legislative elections to elect members of the Palestinian Legislative Council on the designated date, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
