The US military carried out strikes on Iranian radar systems and drone control centers over the weekend, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM). The strikes targeted sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island in response to Iran's downing of a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters.

"US Central Command conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island," CENTCOM said. "US fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters."

No US military personnel were injured in the strikes, CENTCOM said. The command added it "will continue to protect US assets and interests" during the "ongoing ceasefire."

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by targeting a US base used by American forces. On Sunday night at 11 p.m. ET, Iran fired two ballistic missiles at American forces stationed in Kuwait, according to CENTCOM. Both missiles were successfully intercepted, and no US personnel were harmed.

Kuwait's military earlier said its forces had confronted "hostile" missiles and drones in the region. The Strait of Hormuz remained affected by the ongoing tensions, with shipping routes continuing to face disruptions amid the exchanges of fire.

The strikes mark the latest escalation in a series of exchanges between the US and Iran since a ceasefire took effect in early April. The two countries have sporadically exchanged strikes over the past three months as diplomatic negotiations aimed at a more durable agreement continue.

Qeshm Island, where the US conducted strikes, is home to an underground facility and is surrounded by IRGC forces. The island is located in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for regional shipping.

US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social early Monday, urging critics to "sit back and relax." Trump also stated that "Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the USA and those that are with us."
