Brazil's Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized ex-president Jair Bolsonaro to receive dental treatment, but rejected a request to have the procedure performed at a private clinic, according to a court order issued Saturday.
Bolsonaro's legal team had requested that Fernanda Bolsonaro, wife of senator Flávio Bolsonaro, treat the former president at her private dental clinic in Brasília. Moraes denied this request and instead mandated that the dental care take place at the Centro Médico da Polícia Militar do Distrito Federal, the medical center operated by the Federal District's Military Police.
The minister cited "security reasons" for the decision to require treatment at the military facility. The order also stipulates that Bolsonaro be escorted to the location and that the date and time of the appointment be kept confidential for the same security considerations.
The suggestion to have Bolsonaro treated at the military police medical center originated from the Custody Division of the 19th Battalion of the Military Police, which oversees compliance with the former president's house arrest conditions.
The court order does not explicitly clarify whether Fernanda Bolsonaro could still provide dental services to Bolsonaro at the military medical center, or whether another dental professional would perform the procedure there. The decision specifies only the location and security protocols for the appointment.
Bolsonaro remains under house arrest in Brasília. Flávio Bolsonaro, his son, is a senator from Rio de Janeiro and a candidate for the presidency representing the PL party.
