Princess Leonor of Asturias will study political science at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain's royal household announced Monday. The four-year degree program will begin in the third quarter of 2026, following her completion of three years of military training.

The princess, currently in her final year at the Air and Space Academy in San Javier, Murcia, will pursue her studies at the university's Getafe campus in Madrid. Kings Felipe VI and Letizia confirmed the decision in an official statement from the royal palace.

The choice of a public university mirrors the educational path of her father, King Felipe VI, who studied law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid when he was Prince of Asturias. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid ranks among Spain's most prestigious public institutions, particularly in the fields of social sciences, law, and economics.

The announcement comes as Leonor continues her military formation as the future captain general of Spain's armed forces. Her university studies will represent a significant phase in her intellectual preparation for her role as successor to the throne.
