Emma Raducanu has formally rehired Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to the U.S. Open title in 2021, on a permanent basis. Richardson will begin coaching Raducanu with immediate effect, starting Friday in France ahead of the Strasbourg International, a WTA 500 event that begins Sunday.

Richardson, a 52-year-old former world No. 133 from Great Britain, was let go almost immediately after Raducanu's U.S. Open victory five years ago. He has since been working as tennis director at the Ferrer Tennis Academy in La Nucía, Spain.

Raducanu initially linked up with Richardson earlier this month at the Ferrer Academy for a clay-court training block that served as a trial period for a potential formal partnership. During a roundtable at the Italian Open in Rome last week, Raducanu said they were not working together permanently at that time. On Friday morning, however, she announced the formal partnership in a statement.

The pair have agreed to a full-time partnership, meaning Raducanu intends to be guided by Richardson at Wimbledon and beyond. Strasbourg serves as the final warm-up event before the French Open on the WTA clay-court calendar.

Raducanu won the 2021 U.S. Open as a qualifier without dropping a set, becoming an 18-year-old champion. She has not won a title since that triumph. The British player has not competed for two months after struggling with a post-viral illness.

Richardson will accompany Raducanu at the Strasbourg tournament as she returns to competition. The coach expressed gratitude for the reunion, according to statements made public Friday.
