HBO Max renews 'It: Welcome to Derry' for season two

HBO officially confirmed Monday the renewal of "It: Welcome to Derry" for a second season. The announcement was made through HBO's social media channels, accompanied by a brief teaser of approximately 20 seconds.

The series, set in the fictional town of Derry within Stephen King's universe, will continue exploring the city's past and the origins of the horrors that have marked its inhabitants. The first season, which premiered in October 2025, established itself as one of the four largest global debuts in the streaming platform's history.

The teaser transports viewers back to Derry, Maine, initially showing imagery set in 1962, the time period of the first season. The music then shifts tone, and the timeline moves backward to 1935, signaling the new historical period for the upcoming installment. The teaser concludes with an explosion reminiscent of a balloon image.

According to the official synopsis, the new episodes will center on "the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and end up facing unimaginable horror." The Bradley Gang massacre is one of the interludes from King's original novel.

The first season, set primarily in 1962, depicted the initial encounters of Derry's inhabitants with the clown Pennywise, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. The second season will shift the timeline to 1935, during the years of the Great Depression in the United States.

Andy Muschietti, one of the series' creators, told Variety that the plan is for the production to have three seasons in total. No premiere date for the second season has been announced.
