Colombia announced its 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday, with coach Néstor Lorenzo presenting the squad at a press conference in Bogotá.
Midfielder James Rodríguez of Minnesota United and forward Luis Díaz of Bayern Munich lead the squad. Other established players included in the roster are defenders Davinson Sánchez, Jhon Lucumí and Yerry Mina; fullbacks Daniel Muñoz and Johan Mojica; midfielders Jefferson Lerma, Juan Fernando Quintero, Richard Ríos and Jhon Arias; and forwards Jhon Córdoba and Luis Suárez.
Five players from Argentine clubs were included in the squad. Goalkeeper Álvaro Montero plays for Vélez Sarsfield, defender Santiago Arias for Independiente, and midfielders Kevin Castaño and Juan Fernando Quintero for River Plate. Forward Jáminton Campaz was called from Rosario Central. The goalkeeping contingent also includes David Ospina of Atlético Nacional and Camilo Vargas of Atlas.
A notable omission from the squad was Sebastián Villa, captain of Independiente Rivadavia, who had been a standout performer in the Argentine Professional League and Copa Libertadores.
Lorenzo addressed the selection process during the announcement, stating that assembling the roster was not straightforward. "There are players with similar performance levels given the standard they are at. We tried to make the best decision," he said.
The coach expressed gratitude to all players involved in the selection process, including those not chosen. "I want to thank all the boys and football players who were part of the call-ups and the process. I also want to thank those who were not part of it, but were always raising the bar of performance so that the national team is a competitive place to come when it is their turn," Lorenzo said at the press conference.
