New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was issued citations for speeding and driving without a license in Florida, marking the third police stop involving the quarterback in the past three months.
Smith was stopped in Florida and cited for the traffic violations. The incidents represent a pattern of law enforcement contact over a short period, according to reports published Tuesday.
A separate investigation into battery allegations against Smith has been closed. The Davie Police Department issued a report stating the investigation is now "inactive," with officials noting that "no further investigative steps can be reasonably taken with the information presently available."
The battery investigation centered on an incident at Smith's home in Davie on June 21. According to a police incident report, the allegation was made by a woman who identified herself as being employed by Smith as a "manager" whose duties included childcare for his 6-year-old son.
Smith told police that the woman and he were in an intimate relationship in high school but are not currently dating and do not have a child together. He stated that she occasionally spends time at his residence.
Smith was traded to the Jets in March. The quarterback is set to begin training camp in two weeks, according to reports.
