Jets running back Hall strains groin during practice

Breece Hall, running back for the New York Jets, left practice early Monday with a groin strain sustained during a red zone team period drill.

Hall caught a pass from quarterback Geno Smith and was running toward the end zone when he stepped out of bounds untouched before going to the ground. Head coach Aaron Glenn said after practice that he did not believe the injury was significant but wanted to ensure proper evaluation.

"I don't think it was a big deal, but I want to make sure I get the evaluation on that," Glenn said. "The one good thing about our players, man, they are honest with their injuries and if they can go, they can go. But we'll try to be cautionary with a lot of those to make sure that we got the right things."

Glenn indicated that Hall will undergo imaging as part of the evaluation process. The Jets conducted a lighter practice session Monday, which was designated as a veteran rest day for linebacker Demario Davis and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Hall's injury comes as the Jets were developing depth at the running back position. Josh Allen, the team's backup, rushed for a 31-yard touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his first game back from MCL surgery on his left knee. Allen said of his performance, "I think I'm faster and more explosive than ever."

Third-string running back Isaiah Davis is also sidelined with a knee injury, creating opportunities for returner Kene Nwangwu and undrafted rookies Sam Scott and Chip Trayanum to receive carries. Allen expressed confidence in the running back group's role in the offense under coach Frank Reich's system.

"I'd like to say most of it," Allen said when asked how much of the Jets offense will be driven by the run game. "That's what we want — the load on our shoulders. Coach Reich has made a point that we want to run the ball, so hopefully we can do a whole lot of it."

The Jets' receiving corps includes Garrett Wilson alongside complementary weapons such as Adonai Mitchell, Omar Cooper Jr., and Isaiah Williams. Kenyon Sadiq is also expected to contribute but is currently injured.

Monday's practice included team periods focused on different situations, including the offense backed up to the 2-yard line and short yardage scenarios on third and fourth downs.
