Salah expected to return for Liverpool before season end

Liverpool confirmed Mohamed Salah suffered only minor hamstring damage in Saturday's match against Crystal Palace and should play again this season.

Mohamed Salah is expected to play for Liverpool again this season after scans revealed only minor damage to his left hamstring, the club confirmed Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward was substituted in the 59th minute of Liverpool's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday with a hamstring problem. His reaction at the time—applauding all four sides of Anfield before heading down the tunnel—raised concerns that he was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and might have played his final game for the club.

Liverpool have allayed those fears. The club said the problem is a "minor muscle injury" and that it is "anticipated" the Egypt international will recover in time to feature again before leaving the club.

Salah announced last month that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season after reaching an agreement with the club. The 33-year-old has spent nine years at Anfield, scoring 257 goals in 435 appearances.

Liverpool face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday before a home game with Chelsea and then a trip to Aston Villa. If Salah does not feature in those matches, he is set to be back for what is expected to be an emotional farewell at home to Brentford on May 24, which is Liverpool's final game of the campaign.
