Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Friday condemned a terrorist attack in the Sayyida Zainab district of Damascus that resulted in the death of Farhan Hassan al-Mansour, the Friday prayers preacher at Sayyida Zainab Shrine.

Baghaei expressed what he described as deep disgust at what he called the heinous crime. He characterized terrorist acts against religious sites and scholars in Syria and the broader region as part of what he termed an evil plot by the Zionist regime and the United States designed to incite sedition and division in regional countries.

The spokesman called on all parties to remain vigilant against such plots and to fulfill their responsibilities in decisively confronting terrorism and extremism. Baghaei offered condolences to the family of the slain scholar, the Syrian nation, and the community of religious scholars in Syria.

The attack occurred at or near the Sayyida Zainab Shrine, a significant religious site in the Syrian capital.
