Iran's president says now is time to end war with U.S.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Friday that it would be an opportune moment to seek to end the war with the United States, according to state media reports.

Speaking at the 31st General Assembly of the Islamic Association of Iranian Medical Society, Pezeshkian stated that it would be better to end the war now while Iran is in a position of strength and dignity, and while the world recognizes Iran's victory. He also said the world emphasizes that the United States, in violation of international rules, has attacked Iranian schools, hospitals, and infrastructure, and is widely disliked globally.

His comments come amid mixed messaging from both Tehran and Washington on the conflict. A partial truce agreed in June remains in an ambiguous state, having expired without progress or renewal on Monday, according to reports.

The situation reflects ongoing tensions between the two nations. Tehran continues to severely limit shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States is attempting to enforce what it refers to as a blockade of Iran's ports. U.S. President Donald Trump threatened increased economic pressure on Iran this week.

Pezeshkian's remarks represent a softer line in Tehran's foreign policy messaging. Politicians like the president tend to voice somewhat more moderate positions compared to military or theocratic leaders in Iran's government structure.

The partial truce that was agreed in June has not been renewed since its expiration on Monday, leaving the status of any ceasefire arrangement unclear as of Friday.
