Francesco De Gregori disclosed that he made a personal vow never to perform at the Sanremo Music Festival following the death of Luigi Tenco. The revelation came during the presentation of the docufilm "Francesco De Gregori. Nevergreen," directed by Stefano Pistolini.

"When Luigi Tenco killed himself, I swore to myself that I would never go to the Sanremo Festival, under no condition," De Gregori said.

The docufilm, produced by Rai Cultura, premiered on Rai 3 and is available on RaiPlay. It documents a residency De Gregori held at Teatro Out Off in Milan during 2024, two years after the Nevergreen project was conceived at the same venue.

During the month-long residency, De Gregori performed 20 concerts before audiences of approximately 200 people each night. Each evening featured a different setlist drawn from roughly 70 songs that De Gregori considers among his least known works—songs he describes as "perfette sconosciute," or "perfect unknowns," that have never achieved the status of evergreens in his catalog.

The project focuses on these lesser-known compositions from De Gregori's extensive body of work, bringing them to audiences in an intimate setting. The docufilm captures this residency and the stories behind these selections.
