A small plane crashed in North Andros, in the Bahamas, on Friday, killing all 10 people aboard. The Cessna 402, registered as C6-FLX and operated by Flamingo Air, departed from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was headed to San Andros when it encountered difficulties in midair.

The aircraft crashed shortly after 1 p.m. local time in a wooded area near San Andros Airport, according to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA). Video footage posted on social media showed wreckage scattered across the crash site.

The flight carried nine passengers and one pilot. According to a flight manifest obtained by CBS News, members of the Da Pond Band, a musical group, were among those scheduled to be on board.

Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis initially stated that one person had survived the crash. However, he later confirmed at a news conference that the survivor died from their injuries. "We gather beneath a cloud of great sorrow," Davis said, noting that the crash occurred during celebrations of the Bahamas' 53rd independence anniversary.

The Bahamian government temporarily suspended all flights operated by Flamingo Air following the incident. The AAIA is investigating the crash. Police Commissioner Shanta Knowles said that the full passenger list would not be released until family members had been notified. The government stated it would withhold the identities of the victims until relatives had been informed.

The crash occurred hours after another aircraft incident in the region, though details on that separate event remain limited.
