Hector Deleon, 51, has been indicted on 18 felony counts in connection with a stabbing spree at Penn Station earlier this month, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced Monday.

Deleon was indicted on seven counts of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree, six counts of attempted assault in the first degree, and four counts of assault in the second degree.

The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on June 7 in the NJ Transit area of Penn Station. According to authorities, Deleon allegedly entered the transit hub and pulled out a fixed-blade knife, then stabbed seven people.

"Hector Deleon is now indicted for this alleged unprovoked stabbing spree in the middle of Penn Station," Bragg said in a statement. "I am grateful to the good Samaritans who helped end this attack and the Amtrak police officers who safely apprehended the defendant when he attempted to flee. We will not accept this type of random violence anywhere in Manhattan."

Authorities said good Samaritans intervened to help stop the attack. Amtrak police officers apprehended Deleon as he attempted to flee the scene.
