Sony Pictures released a promotional video for the upcoming Spider-Man film "Brand New Day" on Tuesday, featuring actor Tom Holland and Argentine footballer Lionel Messi in a comedic encounter set in New York.
The spot opens with Holland speaking on the phone while sitting in a bodega. When Messi enters the establishment, Holland attempts to greet him but trips and falls to the ground. After getting up, Holland asks Messi, "Are you Messi? What are you doing here?"
Messi responds that he was searching for Spider-Man using the Spidey Tracker, an official tracking application created as part of the film's promotional campaign. The two characters then interact as Holland helps Messi locate the superhero using the app.
The video includes dialogue in Spanish between the two figures. According to reports, the pair swing across New York City buildings during portions of the promotional material.
Sony Pictures and Marvel coordinated the campaign to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is currently underway. The film's cast includes actors Zendaya and Jacob Batalon alongside Holland.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 29, 2026.
