Colombian midfielder Jaminton Campaz received death threats on social media following his country's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after he missed a clear scoring opportunity in the final moments of extra time against Switzerland.

The incident occurred during the round-of-16 match on Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada. In the 114th minute, Campaz sent a ball wide that could have secured victory for Colombia. The match remained scoreless through extra time, and Colombia lost 4-3 on penalty kicks, ending their World Cup campaign.

Following the elimination, Campaz became a focal point of criticism from supporters. He subsequently posted on social media addressing the threats and calling for respect among fans.

"Football is also made of difficult moments. Now, all that remains is to learn, lift our heads and continue working to return even stronger. My Colombia, please never set aside respect. We can think differently, feel frustration or sadness, but no passion justifies hate nor living in fear," Campaz wrote in part of his statement.

The Colombian Football Federation responded to the threats and expressed support for the player.
