Cristiano Ronaldo said Sunday that this season is probably his last as a professional footballer, marking one of his most concrete signals yet about the end of a career spanning more than two decades.
The 41-year-old Portugal captain made the statement in an interview with Vogue published this weekend, conducted alongside his wife, model Georgina Rodríguez, following their recent wedding on Tuesday. "This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy," Ronaldo told the magazine.
Ronaldo currently plays for Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, where he has one year remaining on his contract. The forward recently completed his sixth World Cup appearance with Portugal's national team.
A five-time Ballon d'Or winner and five-time Champions League winner, Ronaldo has claimed league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia. He holds the record as the all-time top goalscorer in men's international football.
In the Vogue interview, Ronaldo said he has already planned his future beyond football. "I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard," he said. "Because football can leave a great void, and you have to fill the time in different ways, not just one."
Among the activities Ronaldo mentioned for his post-football life are the hotel sector, hair implant clinics, bottled water, and media ventures. He also cited travel, padel tennis, and enjoying what he has earned over his career. "And also have more fun, travel more, see and play padel and enjoy what I have earned, what we have earned. Because it has been 25 years of many sacrifices," he said.
Ronaldo has scored 950 goals across his career. According to reports, he would need approximately four fewer goals than he scored in the previous season with Al-Nassr to reach the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
