England's World Cup preparations were disrupted by the theft of training equipment while being transported to their base in Kansas City, Missouri, though the majority of the stolen items have since been recovered.

The theft occurred Friday as the Football Association's logistical team transferred equipment from the squad's pre-tournament base in Florida to Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City. Vehicles carrying the gear arrived at the training facility without the equipment after being broken into during transit.

Footwear and official tournament balls were among the items taken. However, sources confirmed that no elite match boots or game-critical equipment were included in the theft. The stolen items were primarily training gear and general footwear.

Kansas City police detained two people of interest on Friday night in connection with the incident. Authorities at local, state and federal levels launched an investigation into the theft, with police remaining in contact with the FA throughout the process.

By Saturday, England had recovered the majority of the stolen training equipment ahead of the squad's scheduled arrival in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon. The recovery ensured that preparations could proceed for the team's World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed the theft had occurred "at some point between their over-the-road transport from Florida to their arrival at the training facility in Kansas City" and noted the multi-level investigation underway.

England manager Thomas Tuchel and his squad were set to begin training at Swope Soccer Village following their arrival, with the recovered equipment now in place at the facility.
