Timothy Brown is suing the city and the New York Police Department for $100 million following his violent and wrongful arrest inside a liquor store in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood.

Cell phone video of the incident shows two officers punching and kicking Brown repeatedly inside the store. The video circulated widely online, prompting police to confirm they had detained the wrong person. Brown's attorneys notified the city that they intend to pursue the lawsuit, characterizing the arrest as "violent" and "unprovoked."

Following the emergence of the video, the NYPD placed both officers and a sergeant involved in the arrest on modified duty. The incident also prompted an internal review of the Brooklyn Narcotics Unit by department officials.
