New York mayor denies AI use in multilingual Broadway ticket videos

New York Mayor Mamdani released promotional videos speaking Mandarin Chinese and Bengali as part of a Broadway ticket giveaway campaign, denying accusations that he used artificial intelligence to create the content.

The mayor's office produced videos featuring Mamdani speaking multiple languages to promote the ticket initiative. In response to questions about the authenticity of the recordings, Mamdani's team denied using AI technology in the production of the videos.

A third promotional video was also shot with Mamdani speaking Spanish, which is spoken by approximately 843,000 New York residents at home. The Spanish-language video followed earlier controversy surrounding the mayor's language abilities.

Mamdani had previously faced scrutiny over his Spanish fluency during his campaign. Republican State Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz questioned the authenticity of two campaign videos showing Mamdani speaking Spanish and commissioned an independent analysis to determine whether AI was used in their creation. According to Blumencranz, the video contained "sufficient indicators of digital alteration."

In response to the allegations, Mamdani's campaign released a blooper reel showing multiple failed attempts by the mayor to correctly deliver each line in the videos. The release of the outtakes was intended to demonstrate that the videos were authentic recordings rather than AI-generated content.

The Broadway ticket giveaway videos generated significant public engagement, with multiple posts about the initiative accumulating thousands of comments across social media platforms.
