One person was killed in a shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Biddeford, Maine on Monday morning, Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau announced.

The shooting occurred around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Pool and Hill streets in the town of approximately 21,000 people located about 15 miles south of Portland. According to authorities, ICE agents were pursuing the man for deportation when he accelerated his vehicle toward the officers.

The Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition identified the deceased as a 26-year-old Colombian national who was authorized to work in the United States and possessed a Social Security number. Authorities have not officially released the victim's identity.

Eyewitness Lucas Scott, 18, described the sequence of events. "The car was put into drive and was trying to hit the ICE officer," Scott said. Officers in green vests had surrounded the vehicle and drawn their weapons before the driver appeared to drive directly at them, according to witness accounts.

Video footage from the scene shows a bullet hole visible through the driver's side of the front windshield. A photograph from the Portland Press Herald shows a Kia sedan with four bullet holes in the windshield. Additional video from the scene shows agents rendering first aid to the person lying on the street.

Biddeford police responded to the incident and provided security at the scene. The department directed inquiries to ICE. The FBI responded immediately to assist at the scene but did not offer additional information. Maine State Police and the Department of Public Safety were also on scene to gather details.

Senator Angus King of Maine said Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told him the agent opened fire after the man tried to use his vehicle as a weapon against agents pursuing him for deportation. King noted that the agents involved in the shooting did not have body-worn cameras.

The fatal shooting in Maine marks the second deadly shooting involving ICE agents in less than one week. The incident occurred days after an ICE agent shot and killed a 52-year-old Mexican national, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, during an immigration operation in Houston, Texas.

Biddeford police stated there was no threat to the public following the shooting.
