Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League for the second consecutive year Saturday, defeating Arsenal on penalties in the final held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes of regular play and extra time. Arsenal took the lead in the sixth minute when Kai Havertz scored. PSG equalized in the 65th minute through Ousmane Dembélé, who converted a penalty kick awarded after a foul on Georgian midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The teams remained level through the additional 30 minutes, forcing a penalty shootout. PSG prevailed 4-3 in the shootout. Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes missed the decisive final penalty, shooting high, which secured the title for PSG.

Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was in goal for PSG during the final. Safonov joined the French club in summer 2024 and was included in the squad for last year's final against Inter Milan but did not play. With Saturday's victory, Safonov became the first Russian to win the Champions League twice.

PSG manager Luis Enrique secured his third Champions League title as a coach. The French club previously won the competition last year, defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.

The victory qualifies PSG for the FIFA Club World Cup in 2029. PSG also earned a place in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup scheduled for December 2026 in Doha, Qatar, as the winner of Europe's primary club competition. The Intercontinental Cup brings together continental champions to compete for the world title.

Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, reached the final after eliminating Atlético Madrid in the semifinals. The English club had not appeared in a European final for 20 years prior to Saturday's match.
