Yael Averbuch West has been promoted to president of soccer operations at NJ/NY Gotham FC, the club announced Thursday. The former center back will retain her role as general manager and head of soccer operations, which she has held since August 2021.
In her expanded position, Averbuch West will continue leading all sporting aspects of the club, overseeing roster construction, player recruitment, and long-term strategic planning.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue leading our sporting vision at Gotham FC," Averbuch West said in a statement. "We are building something truly special, and our focus remains on competing for championships while developing an environment where players and staff can perform at the highest level."
The promotion also coincided with the announcement that Mark Zarthar has been named Club President. Gotham FC announced both moves on social media, stating "Always building, never finished."
Averbuch West's career has spanned roles as a player, entrepreneur, and executive in women's soccer. Her influence extends across virtually every aspect of Gotham's sporting operation, from player acquisitions to strategic direction. The club has positioned itself as one of the NWSL's most ambitious and successful organizations during her tenure in the front office.
