The New York Knicks and MSG family of companies announced Wednesday an initiative to distribute free NBA Finals tickets to underprivileged youth throughout New York City, addressing concerns over ticket affordability during the franchise's first championship run since 1973.

The program will provide 250 complimentary tickets for each of Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden, totaling 500 free admissions. The initiative is being administered through the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a partner organization of the MSG family.

Ticket prices for the Finals have soared well into the thousands of dollars as the Knicks compete in their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999. The high cost has created financial barriers for many New York fans seeking to attend games and watch their team pursue a championship.

The Knicks are currently facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Finals series, with OKC holding a 3-2 lead heading into Games 3 and 4. The franchise last won an NBA championship in 1973, making the current Finals appearance a significant moment for the organization and its fan base.

Head Coach Mike Brown has emphasized sacrifice as a core principle for the team during the Finals run. A "Standard of a Champion" contract signed by every player and coach in the Knicks locker room begins with a commitment to sacrifice, stating that "my willingness to sacrifice at the highest level for the team, on and off the floor will represent my dedication to our collective objective."
