New York City's lottery for discounted FIFA World Cup tickets filled to capacity on its first day, reaching the maximum 50,000 entries within three minutes of opening at 10 a.m. Monday, according to a spokesperson for Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The lottery offers New York City residents the chance to purchase tickets to World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium for $50 each. Mayor Mamdani announced the program last week after securing 1,000 reduced-price tickets in partnership with the NY/NJ Host Committee.
The 1,000 tickets are distributed across seven matches—five group-stage games and two knockout-round matches, with approximately 150 tickets allocated per game. Winners will be able to purchase up to two tickets each and will receive free round-trip bus transportation to MetLife Stadium.
Eligibility requirements include being at least 15 years old, with one entry permitted per person per day. The lottery runs through Saturday, May 30, with registration opening each morning at 10 a.m. and closing once the 50,000-entry limit is reached. On Monday, the website stopped accepting entries after three minutes and will resume accepting registrations Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Winners will be notified on June 3. Registration is available at www.regnyctix.com.
According to reporting, Mamdani, who describes himself as a lifelong soccer fan, raised the issue of ticket accessibility directly with FIFA president Gianni Infantino during a meeting at New York City Hall in March. The FIFA World Cup begins in less than three weeks.
