Uber Technologies Inc. announced Friday it will offer a new shuttle service for fans attending FIFA World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and three other host cities this summer.
The ride-sharing company will operate 50-seat vans departing from venues after games conclude. Fares will be $49 for passengers leaving MetLife Stadium. Shuttles departing from stadiums in Dallas, Boston and Miami will charge $45 per seat, with set drop-off locations established in each city.
Riders can book seats using the shuttle icon in the Uber app either on match day or in advance. The service will not be available for transportation to the stadiums, only for departures after games end.
The shuttles will operate on eight World Cup match days this summer at MetLife Stadium, scheduled for June 13, 16, 22, 25, 27, 30 and July 5 and 19. No surcharges will apply to the fares.
Separately, New York City authorities are implementing traffic management measures for the eight match days at MetLife Stadium. The 42nd Street corridor in Midtown Manhattan will be designated for shuttles and buses only during those periods. Dedicated bus lanes will be put in place, and delivery hours will be shifted to manage congestion.
Each match day will be designated a Gridlock Alert Day. Regular city bus and Access-A-Ride service will continue, though service may be slower than usual in Midtown. The city is encouraging subway use as an alternative.
NJ Transit train service will be adjusted during match days. LIRR, Metro-North and PATH service are expected to operate normally.
Special stadium shuttle buses will provide nonstop round-trip express service between Manhattan and MetLife Stadium via the Lincoln Tunnel on match days.
