Russian forces launched a missile attack Tuesday on the town of Pechenyi in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine, killing at least 10 people and wounding 17 others, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, confirmed the casualty figures via Telegram. He stated that the strike targeted a busy intersection in Pechenyi, an area surrounded by residential buildings and containing a post office and shops.
The attack damaged multiple civilian structures. Ten private buildings were hit, along with a post office, shops, a café, and seven vehicles, according to regional officials. Photos released by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski showed a destroyed building, burning cars, and emergency personnel transporting people on stretchers.
Zelenski said on X that the Russians had launched "a brutal attack against a very busy intersection in Pechenyi" in the Kharkiv region. He pledged a response, stating: "Without a doubt we will respond to this Russian attack."
The wounded received medical attention, according to Syniehubov. Russia has not commented on the attack.
