Seattle Reign fell 2-0 to defending champion NJ/NY Gotham FC on Friday at Lumen Field, extending their scoreless drought to 499 minutes across five consecutive games without a win.
Jaedyn Shaw opened the scoring in the 24th minute off an assist from Savannah McCaskill. Tierna Davidson doubled the lead in the 57th minute on a recycled corner kick. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger recorded two saves and earned her seventh clean sheet of the season, the most in the NWSL.
Seattle's last goal came in the 41st minute of a win against Racing Louisville in March, when forward Nérilia Mondésir scored. The club has not found the net since that match.
The Reign's record fell to 3-4-2 with the loss. They remain winless in their past five matches, posting a record of 0-3-2 during that span. Gotham improved to 5-2-3 and recorded its fifth straight result without a loss.
Seattle created limited chances throughout the match, registering 0.8 expected goals. Late in the game, veteran substitute Brittany Ratcliffe had a one-on-one opportunity that was saved by Berger in the 85th minute. Maddie Dahlien was tripped in the box in stoppage time but no penalty was called.
The Reign will not have an opportunity to end their scoreless streak at home until July due to a monthlong hiatus for the FIFA men's World Cup.
